new things

Since just about everything in my life has been changing in the most positive way lately, I thought a make-over for my blog would be the appropriate thing to do :-)

I really hope you like it - I think it looks more calm, clean, "grown-up" and just like Johanna from knittingmydayaway put it: "crispy". At least, I like it this way and I hope you do too!

I´ll see you later this week, with a new baby-cardigan I made (crochet) for my irresistible little niece, Gerður Lilja. I used baby lama from my one of my favorite yarnstores, "litla prjónabúðin" and icelandic unspun wool.

(as you can see, I´ve been playing around with instagram and our cute little samsung tablet)

the only one

When I was 6 years old one of my biggest wishes was to have a pink woolen sweater.
For my first day in school my mother fulfilled this wish and put some pink pants on top...
I can still remember how happy I was wearing my new pink pants and my sweater - the only pink one I ever got...

Here I am, wearing my pink pants and pink woolen sweater that day,
with my wonderful friend Ásthildur

Autumn

Autumn has arrived in Iceland and I´m a big fan of this time of year.
What I love is:
- the beautiful colours of nature
- the refreshing frost in the morning
- frosty plants
- wearing a lopapeysa in the fresh air
- enjoying a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate

But most of all, I love talking long walks along the seashore on sunny, calm autumn mornings,
tucked up in my warm handknitted things.

What´s your favorite time of year and what is it, you love about it?

Here you have some pictures of my walk yesterday...

The lopapeysa

Have I ever told you how much I love lopi? Here you have some lopipeysa/Islandpullis/lopisweaters I have made in the last 5 years...

1. Green one on the left: yarn: léttlopi, horses: I got them on the Istex-homepage; shaping: I made it up...
On the right: unspun, one strand (really thin) - the pattern: "Bokki" from the book Prjónaperlur

2. yarn: léttlopi from Istex; pattern: "Fjör" from Lopi 25

3. on the left: sweater for my dad, yarn: álafosslopi; Pattern: from Lopi 12; shaping: myself
on the right: Sweater for Bidenam; yarn: léttlopi; Pattern: Lopi 12, adapted for a child; shaping: myself

4: this one is one of my favorite child-lopisweater-pattern, so pretty and classic; yarn: Álafosslopi; pattern: from Lopi 2

5. Yarn: Álafosslopi; Pattern: The stars/roses/snowflakes from "Fjör" (Lopi 2) adapted for a child;     shaping: myself

 6. in the front: also one of my favorites... classic and so pretty! Yarn: léttlopi: Pattern: "Barnahettupeysa",    a free pattern on the Istex-homepage found here;

And here you have something else I love: driftwood... so beautiful... this one was taken in the south of Iceland, near Höfn in Hornafjordur

Landmannalaugar, what a magical place and a wonderful, adventurous drive... you can bath in natural, hot springs there...

Lopapeysa - an icelandic sweater for kids

Last week, I finished a new lopapeysa (Islandpulli) for Freyr. I´ve knitted this yoke pattern from the book Lopi 2 several times, but never in this version with buttons half way down and a hood. Freyr loves hooded sweaters and because of that, his new, thick lopapeysa had to have a hood... since I wasn´t in the mood for making a zippered sweater, I decided to give this version a try - it was a lot of fun, I learned a lot on the way and I really like the way it turned out. The best thing is the fitting of the hood- it´s tight and comfy at the same time... and the high ribbing in the neck-area is perfect for a boy like Freyr, who loves to wear lopi.

yarn: lopi
needles: 4,5 and 6
Pattern: from Lopi 2

buttons: from my mothers treasure-chest...

love, love, love the hood...

the back:

... like the colours too...
